Just a suggestion! Hardwoods like Oaks, Walnut, Ash, and Cherry are considerably more durable, and hold up much better too the abuse we put them through. Pine is cheaper and makes a good-looking box but you’ll see it will dent and ding real easy. If you have a new vehicle that you will be keeping for 3-4 years, I suggest a hardwood. It takes about 12 board feet to make a box and hardwoods range anywhere from $5.50 to $12.00 a board foot. (Example: Walnut is $10.45 a board foot X 12 = $125.40 for just the lumber. I’m not making any money on this deal) I have Red Oak, Pecan, Walnut and White Pine readily available. I also have about 15 colors of stain.
