    Police arrested a man in connection with an auto theft.  The man was handcuffed and placed in the back seat of a partitioned police car while officers interviewed witnesses.  The man was able to get his handcuffs in front of his body, wiggle his way through the protective partition into the front seat, and speed away.  The man led police on a short high speed chase before crashing the police car in a wooded area.  More than a dozen officers along with tracking dogs plus a helicopter using nighttime infrared equipment, found the man and captured him again.  Police estimate the wrecked police car damaged at about $5,000.00.

    Police responded to a car stuck in the ditch but when officers arrived, the man attacked one of the officers.  Police arrested the man and placed him handcuffed into the back seat of a police car.  During transport to jail, the man was able to wiggle his handcuffed hands to the front of his body and bust out the police car's back window then he escaped.  Officers rushed to the escape scene and the man was eventually captured again and taken to jail.  Three officers were hurt during the event.

    Police arrested two men after receiving a tip of drugs being stored in a garage.  When police arrived at the address they they saw a large bundle of marihuana in the middle of the open garage and a set of scales.  Officers handcuffed both subjects and placed them in the back seat of a police car.  During a search, one of the subjects kicked the window out of the police car.

    A lady was arrested for prostitution, handcuffed behind her back, and placed in the front seat of an unmarked police detective car to await transport.  While investigating the incident, the lady was alone in the detective's police car "for a brief moment," but was able to slip her handcuffed hands in front of her body, get into the driver seat of the detective's police car, and drive away.  The lady abandoned the detective's police car and fled on foot.  Officers quickly caught the lady and took her back into custody.

    Police arrested a man who broke into a guest cottage and started living.  The residence own discovered the man and held him at gun point until officers arrived.  The man was handcuffed and transported in the back seat of a police car to jail.  During transport, the man wriggled free from one of his handcuffs.  When the officer opened the police car door at the jail, the man pushed the officer and ran.  The officer chased the man, but lost him.  The man broke into a home about four hours later and stole a handgun and jacket.  A resident there was awaken and reported the burglary.  A helicopter and more than 20 officers searched the area for the burglar.  The following morning a detective spotted the armed man who surrendered to officers peacefully.

    Officers stopped a subject for a traffic violation, and the subject fled on foot.  Officer located the subject a short time later and found illegal drugs on him.  The subject was handcuffed and placed in the backseat of a police car.  While officers were searching the subject's room, the subject was able to escape from the police car and flee on foot.  Police were notified of a sighting of the escaped subject who attempted to hide in an attic.  After a short chase, the subject was captured again, and the subject was still handcuffed.

    Officers captured 2 subjects that attacked a elderly woman.  During a pat-down search; officers confiscated numerous packets, some containing a white substance and off-white substance, that field-tested positive for heroin and cocaine, plus two syringes and a spoon.  When placed into a police vehicle for transport, one subject kicked out and shattered the driver’s side rear window of the police car.

    Officers arrested a man for driving while intoxicated.  The man was handcuffed behind his back and placed in the back seat of a marked police car.  While officers were getting vehicle information from the man's car, the man was able to slip out of the handcuffs, get into the driver seat of the police car, and drove off.  Officers lost site of the stolen police car, but did find it abandoned a short time later.  The man fled on foot and was found about 45 minutes later during a search with many officers and tracking dogs.  The man was injured as he resisted arrest and was treated then released from a hospital and taken to jail.

    An officer arrested a subject for DUI, handcuffed the subject with his hands in front and put him in the back seat of a patrol car.  The subject was able to get out of the back seat of the patrol car and run away while the officer was searching the subject's car.  When the arresting officer and another officer went to the address the subject gave, they saw him in the house with a firearm and the subject fired off.  A Special Response Team was called in and officers evacuated some residences in the area.  After several hours of negotiation, the subject surrendered peacefully; about 8 hours after the traffic stop.

An officer chasing the subject got caught on the barbed wire and was submerged in 4 feet of cold water, and had to be treated for hypothermia.

    A drunken driver was arrested a put into the front seat of the patrol car due to a K-9 which was in the back seat.  While the deputy was inventorying the subject's vehicle, the subject managed to contort his handcuffed arms from behind his back, unbuckle his seatbelt and drive off in a patrol car.  Other officers gave chase, with the subject hitting several mailboxes and a fire hydrant.  The chase ended three minutes after it began on a dead end road.  The subject got out of the patrol car with his hands still handcuffed and was taken back into custody
    .  The police dog was shaken but unharmed and the patrol car had to be towed.  Sheriff's Deputy said, "it was not a laughing matter."  "Nobody's looking at it as being funny. It's a serious thing, and we want to make sure it doesn't happen again."

    An officer arrested a lady involved in a robbery.  The lady was handcuffed and placed in the back seat of a patrol car while officers were speaking with the lady's father.  While the officers were talking to the lady's father, the lady managed to escape from both the handcuffs and the patrol car.  After escaping the patrol car the lady stole her father’s pickup truck.  2 officers attempted to pull her from the pickup, but she sped away, dragging the two officers for a short distance before they fell to the pavement, slightly injuring both officers.  Officers chased the lady in the stolen pickup with the lady colliding with a patrol car head on.  The stolen pickup was “spun out” by a deputy with some patrol car damage.  The lady was taken into custody for a second time and taken to a hospital then to jail.  After the accident and spin out, both of those officers were treated at a hospital.

    An officer located and arrested a man who attacked a girl and fled on foot.  During court, the man was combative and additional officers were called to court.  After court, the officers placed the man into the police car where the man slipped out of his waist restraint and kicked out the rear driver's side window of the police car.  Damage to the police car is estimated at $1,154.00.

These two were more combative after they were placed in cuffs and placed in the back of the vehicle, and then we had to put leg restraints on them to keep them from restraining the inside of the vehicles and damaging them any further."

    A deputy arrested a subject who had an outstanding warrant, driving while his license was suspended, and giving a false name to a law enforcement officer.  The subject was placed in handcuffs and put in the back seat of a caged patrol car with window bars, while deputies searched the subject's home.  Deputies found stolen credit cards, cocaine and other items.  Deputies returned to the patrol car to find the subject had escaped.
    "We have no clue how he got out. The deputy took all of the necessary precautions.  We suspect someone let him out."

    A Trooper stopped a man for speeding and the man had no identification.  The Trooper arrested the man by handcuffing him with his hands behind his back and placing him in the front seat of the patrol car.  The Trooper went to inform the woman in the stopped vehicle that she could follow the patrol car to the magistrate's office.  Upon returning to the patrol car, the Trooper found the man was attempting to get his handcuffs out from behind his back.  The Trooper called for backup and then attempted to subdue the man with pepper spray.  After a brief struggle, the man had successfully maneuvered his cuffed hands out from behind his back then fled into nearby woods before running back to his vehicle.  Once inside his car, the arrested man told the female passenger to speed away.  The female lead troopers on a high speed chase.  The female rammed three patrol cars before crashing into the median, coming to a stop, and both being arrested.  Troopers found the couple's 16-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter were also in the vehicle.

    A Deputy stopped a suspicious vehicle with two subjects in it thought to have been stealing building supplies.  The deputy handcuffed one subject and placed him in the patrol car because of outstanding warrants and the subject gave the deputy false information.  While the deputy was questioning the 2nd subject, the arrested subject jumped into the driver seat of the patrol car and sped towards the deputy with the deputy shooting at the arrested subject in the stolen patrol cars.  Another officer in the area saw the stolen patrol car and followed it onto a nearby street where the arrested subject crashed it.  The arrested subject fled, but was found several hours later.  The stolen patrol car, suffered about $3,000 in damages.

    An deputy was assisting a motorist who ran out of gas when another subject walked out of a nearby wooded area.  The deputy noticed drug paraphernalia in plain view and called for backup.  The officers arrested both subjects and placed one subject in one patrol car and the 2nd subject in another patrol car.  While the officers searched the subject's vehicle, one of the subjects climbed out of a window and fled, but left his drivers license in the patrol car.  About 6 hours later, a vehicle was stolen in the area.  Officers went to the escaped subject's residence, where they found the stolen vehicle and the subject was taken into custody again.

    Detectives were transporting a large subject to the jail.  The subject was handcuffed with leg shackles because regular handcuffs would not fit.  As the detectives drove through the security gates, the subject was able to get out of the back seat of the unmarked police car and run.  The subject squeezed through the closing steel doors and detectives couldn't pursue him immediately because they had to wait for the doors to reopen.  After a 90 minute manhunt through city streets, the subject was captured again.

    A K-9 Officer responded to a shoplifting call and arrested a subject.  The officer handcuffed the man in front of his body because of a prior shoulder injury.  The subject was placed in the front seat of the patrol car, due to the K-9 kennel in the back seat.  While the officer was checking on a van that the subject claimed ownership of, he unbuckled his seat belt, got out of the cruiser and began to run away.  The officer chased the subject on foot and caught him, with the subject fighting the officer.  The subject got into the van, put it in gear, and started driving the vehicle back in forth, striking the officer with an open van door several times; knocking the officer to the ground.  Fearing for his own safety and others in the area, the officer shot out two of the van's tires.  The subject sped out of the parking lot, but abandoned the van in the parking lot of a nearby mall.  The officer was injured and the subject was apprehended.

The man climbed through a window to get into the building and when an employee confronted the man; the man walked out of the building carrying two cartons of yogurt and wearing someone's jacket. The employee tried to detain the man, but the man swung at the employee and missed before walking away.  A deputy spotted the man a short distance away walking toward the interstate. The man ran when the deputy approached, but he was eventually caught the man.  After the man was arrested, the man kicked out two rear windows of the deputy's patrol car.

    Two officers stopped a vehicle and found the driver and passenger intoxicated.  The driver was handcuffed and placed in the back seat of one of the patrol cars while the passenger of the vehicle was handcuffed and placed into another patrol car.  While the officers were busy, the arrested driver managed to get out of the patrol car and started running.  One of the officers with the help of people in a parking lot, stopped and took the arrested driver back into custody.  During the foot chase, the arrested passenger kicked out the right rear window of the other patrol car.  The other officer was showered by broken glass and slightly cut.  The arrested passenger attempted to crawl out the broken window of the patrol car, but other officers responded to the scene and moved him to another patrol car.  A jail transport van was called for transport.  One subject was treated at the hospital, then taken to jail.

Police located several items of clothing that had been stolen in the van.  When an officer went back to the police car where the man was being detained, the officer saw the rear passenger police car door was open, and the man was no longer in the police car.  Police chased the man on foot through several backyards, and was able to jump several chain-link fences before being caught again.

    A deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding, which the driver and passenger switched places to make it appear as if the driver hadn’t been behind the wheel.  The original driver was arrested for speeding, a felony count of driving with a suspended license while being a habitual violator and obstruction without violence.  The original driver was placed in handcuffs and put into the back seat of a marked patrol vehicle and transported to jail.  While en route to the jail, the man kicked out the rear window of the patrol vehicle and before the deputy could stop the vehicle, the man crawled out through the rear window area, landing head-first onto the roadway.  The man suffered a severe head injury and was flown to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

    Two Constables were transporting a prisoners who was handcuffed with a restraint belt around his waist and shackles on his ankles.  The seatbelt was on the prisoner with the child-restraint door locks activated.  The transport unit had no cage between the front and rear seats.  During transport, the prisoner lunged towards the front seat of the vehicle, and forcibly grabbed one of the Constable's gun.  The prisoner assaulted the two constables, and escaped from a rear passenger side window. During the course of the assault, the prisoner fired at least five shots in the direction of both constables while they were inside the vehicle, and the shots shattered the windows of the vehicle.  Once outside the vehicle, the prisoner struck one of the Constables multiple times in the face with the gun, and kept threatening to shoot both constables.  The prisoner then approached the driver of a black Jeep, pointed the gun at the driver's face, and ordered him out of the vehicle or he'd shoot.  While the prisoner was in the jeep, he attempted to back over one of the Constables before hitting a van as the prisoner left the scene.  The prisoner was still handcuffed and lead officers on a high speed chase before crashing into a police car and beer truck, and being taken back into custody.  The prisoner and constables were treated for injuries at a hospital and released.

    A park ranger noticed two suspicious men in a boat at a lake.  After the men loaded the boat, the ranger made contact with the men and noticed a meth lab in the boat.  The ranger arrested the 1st subject and the 2nd subject jumped into the driver seat of the vehicle pulling the boat and took off.  The 2nd subject swerved at the Sheriff who was backing the ranger up.  The Sheriff shot at the 2nd subject and struck the subject in the arm.  A chase ensued with the subject crashing the vehicle and boat after seeing a roadblock ahead.  The subject attempted to flee on foot, but was captured.

    Police arrested a man after a disturbance.  The man was being transported handcuffed in the back seat of a police car when the man kicked out both rear windows of the police car, jumped out, assaulted the officer, and stole the police car.  The man drove a short distance in the stolen police car before rolling the car in the ditch and stealing another vehicle, and crashing it too.

    Police responded to a domestic incident where the male subject became combative and fought with police.  After a struggle, the subject was subdued; but continued to be unruly as officers attempted to transfer him into a police car.  The subject also kicked a police officer as he was being placed in the cruiser.  Once inside the police car, the subject kicked a door and smashing out the windows of the police car.  One officer was injured.

    Police stopped an intoxicated lady and was going to transport her home.  While in the back seat of the police car, the lady kicked the cage divider and yelled at officers.  The lady was arrested and while transporting the handcuffed lady to jail; the lady was able to slip out of the handcuffs, unlock the back door through an open window for ventilation, jumped out of the police car, and escaped on foot.  Police caught the lady a short distance away and taken back into custody.  The lady again slipped a hand out of the handcuffs and began to kick at the patrol officer.

    A prisoner was being transported by a corrections officer to a hospital in the back seat of the department's transport Jeep in both handcuffs and shackles.  The prisoner swung the handcuffs over the driver's neck, strangling him and forcing the corrections officer  out of the Jeep and then sped off.  Texas Troopers spotted the stolen transport vehicle and attempted to use spike strips, but the prisoner avoided them.  The prisoner finally crashed the stolen transport vehicle and was recaptured.

    Police arrested a subject who had outstanding warrants.  The subject was handcuffed and placed in the back seat of an officer's unmarked police car without a cage, which was parked less than a block away and around the corner.  The officers went back to the vehicle the subject was driving to talk to the passenger and inventory the vehicle.  While the officer was away from the police car, the subject was able to get into the front seat of the police car and drive away.  The officers saw their car driving away, they ran after it and fired one shot striking the driver side door, which shattered.  The subject ran into a vehicle, in the stolen police car and continued.  The stolen police car was found later and were able to locate and arrest the subject later that day.  The subject said the officers who arrested him "left me in [the car] and walked away."  "It was their mistake - their fault, not mine."

    Troopers stopped a vehicle with four men in a car on suspicion of drug possession.  While the Troopers were searching the vehicle, one of the men jumped into the patrol car and sped away.  The thief didn't get far and crashed the stolen patrol car into a barrier, went airborne and crashed into a second concrete barrier.  The trooper's car was totaled. The driver suffered minor injuries, but no one else was injured.  Troopers found two guns and crystal methamphetamine in the vehicle.  "There are cars stolen every day and people driving recklessly every day.     An officer stopped a man for speeding.  The man refused to sign the citation and
    became verbally aggressive threatening the officer. The officer requested backup police units.  The man tried to exit the vehicle a number of times, even after police told him to remain in his car.  The man attempted to push the car door open, which almost caused the officer to end up in traffic.  The officer tried to arrest the man who shoved and struck the officer in the chest.  After being arrested, the man was placed in the back seat of the patrol car where he began kicking the passenger side window and threatened to kill the arresting officer.

    An officer stopped a vehicle and found the driver had no drivers license.  The procedure is to write the man a ticket and release him after first taking the man’s photograph and a print of his thumb.  After doing so, the officer started to search the vehicle.  The officer found a box full of rolls of cash totaling more than $15,000 and two handguns each wrapped in plastic wrap.  As soon as the box was discovered, the man who was seated in the back seat of the police squad car with the windows open; let himself out of the patrol car and fled on foot.  A helicopter was used during a search, but the man was not found.

When the officer approached the men, they resisted but one man was handcuffed and placed in the back seat of a patrol car.  The other man jumped over the bridge and into the water. When the officer went to check on the man in the water, the man in the back seat of the patrol car had managed to free himself, get in to the front seat of the patrol car, and speed off crashing the stolen patrol car.  Both men were arrested and the new patrol car destroyed.

    Correctional officers were transporting eleven inmates to jail in a transport van.   During transport, officers heard a disturbance in the back of the van and observed one of the doors to the van was open with one of the inmates laying on the roadway.   The other inmates stayed inside the van and officers were able to get the fallen inmate.  The inmates were handcuffed, belly chained, and shackled around the legs, but he was able to open the van door.
