Officers stopped a vehicle which drove through
flares and traffic cones at a traffic crash. As officers approached, they saw the
subject reach for a handgun plus saw four baggies of marijuana and a nearly empty
bottle of whiskey in the car. The officers removed the subject from the car and onto
the freeway shoulder, away from traffic. The man started fighting with the officers
and attempted to jump over a highway wall with the officer hanging on. After being
restrained and placed in a police car, the subject while handcuffed managed to open the
police car door. An officer used pepper spray to subdue the subject again.

Officers arrested a subject after a fight. The subject was handcuffed and
placed in the back seat of a police car. While in the police car, the subject kicked
out a window of the police car and fled on foot. The subject was captured after a

Police handcuffed and sat a man in the locked back seat of a marked police cruiser
while the officer was questioning other suspects. The man somehow was able to get
the handcuffs in front of him, manipulate the window and door, and got out. The
officer ran back to his patrol car and tried to hold onto the window as the suspect was
driving off, where the officer was dragged for ten feet. The man slammed the stolen
police car into a pickup truck and tried to run, but was captured again.

Police arrested a teenager who had made explosive devices. The officers
placed the teen in the back seat of a patrol car while they took statements. When
officers returned to the patrol car, a rear window was smashed and the teen was
gone. The teen was found and captured again. The teen was treated for an

Officers made contact with a female who was very intoxicated. While waiting
for an ambulance, officer placed the lady in the back seat of the police car. The
lady kicked out a window of the cruiser, and while police tried to get control of her and
take her into custody, she struck one of the officers in the head. She was
transported to the police station, where she continued to be uncooperative and later
kicked another officers in the face. Neither officer suffered serious injury.

An inmate was being transferred back to jail after a court hearing when the inmate
tried to escape by breaking through a protective barrier and attacking the officer with
the deputy then shooting the prisoner in the upper leg. During the struggle, the
patrol unit crashed over an embankment and struck a rock culvert. The prisoner was
taken into custody with the help of jail officers. Jail medical staff attended to
both the deputy's and inmate's injuries until transferred to a hospital.

An officer was arresting two subjects who robbed a store in a stolen vehicle then
attempted to flee on foot before the officer shot one of the subjects with a Taser.
The officer began handcuffing one of the subjects when the second subject was able to get
into the patrol car and speed away with the emergency lights still running. The
subject lost control of the patrol car and struck a culvert, ran up an embankment, and
came to rest in a ditch. The subject then fled the crashed patrol car and broke into
a house in which, a lady was asleep inside. She managed to get out of the house when
the subject passed out on the couch. The subject caused $3,200 damage to the patrol
car which had only been in service for one week.

Officers responded to a report of a disorderly man and found
the subject which also had an illegal license plates on his vehicle, was driving on a
suspended license, and smelled of alcohol. The subject arrested and placed in the
back seat of a patrol unit with the seatbelt on. While being transported, the
subject kicked out the patrol car's window and was able to open the car door while the
patrol unit was still moving. The officer stopped the vehicle, used pepper spray on
the subject, and struggled to get the subject back into the vehicle. About one-half
mile later, the subject kicked the patrol car's door open again and two deputies assisted
in stopping the subject, who was shocked twice with a Taser.

A deputy arrested a subject who had kicked in an apartment door. The subject was
handcuffed behind his back, but complained of shoulder pain. The deputy used two
sets of handcuffs connected in a chain to secure the man's arms behind him and placed the
subject back in the patrol unit. While the man was being transported to a nearby
substation, the man slipped out of his handcuffs and got out of the patrol
car. The deputy began struggling with the suspect outside the patrol car when the
man reached for the deputy's gun, which came out of its holster with the gun
discharging. Passers-by reported the fight to other deputies in the area which
responded and helped capture the man again. The man and the deputy were both treated
for injuries.

violations. Officers were talking to the subjects outside the patrol unit when
officers found alcohol in the vehicle and the passenger gave a false name. When
officers attempted to take the passenger into custody, he fled on foot. The driver
was told he was going to be detained and started flailing his arms and struck an officer
in the face. He ran away from police, entered his vehicle, and fought with police as
he tried to speed away. The subjects were caught but two officers sustained injuries
during the incident.

climb into the front seat of the police car, and drive away with the emergency flashing

After being arrested for a string robberies, the suspect claimed he was sick and couldn't
breathe. He was checked by paramedics and found to be faking. As a precaution,
police used two sets of handcuffs to restrain the man's hands behind his back. When police
arrived at the Precinct, the man had managed to bring his handcuffed hands to the front so
when the officer opened the back door of a patrol vehicle, the suspect knocked the officer
to the ground and ran. The suspect was able to scale a precinct block wall and the
suspect attempted to get control of the vehicle and car-jack an older man. The
officer caught up with the suspect and they fought, with the officer shooting the suspect
to stop the kidnapping.

A man arrested for an outstanding warrant was being transported in the back seat of a
patrol car. The man broke the set of plastic handcuffs he was wearing and broke the
back window of the patrol car with his head, then squeezed out the window as the patrol

taser gun and held him until backup. The man and officer were both taken to the
emergency room for minor injuries.

without incident. Officers attempted to place the resisting subject in handcuffs,
but he fought back. The man continued to resist officers as they tried to put him
into a nearby police car. In an effort to control him, officers used a Taser, which
enabled them to subdue the resisting man long enough to get him into the patrol car.
After only a few seconds, the resisting subject kicked out the rear driver's window of a
police car. Officers removed him and further retrained him prior to transporting him to

trustee in the kitchen back to his cell at the Jail Annex when he was able to escape from
the transport van. The prisoner reached through the window and used the door handle
on the outside of the vehicle. The transport van has bars on the windows and the
windows open only so far, but the prisoner was able to get to the outside handle which
allowed the prisoner to open the door from the inside. Four other prisoners were in
the van at the time, but decided not to try and run. The van door has now been
modified.

threatened to attack a lady with a knife and brass knuckles. The subject was cuffed

between the front and back seats, and exited through a front door. The subject fled

contact and arrested the subject. The subject was handcuffed behind his back and put

the back seat of the caged unit with the subject banging his head into the plastic cage
window and breaking it. During transport, the subject attempted to slip his

back seat with the subject onto jail.

vehicle for running a red light, but the subject attempted to flee officers but deputies
boxed the subject in. The subject was cuffed by the ankles and wrists in the back of
a patrol car en route to jail when he managed to get his seatbelt off then laid down in
the backseat and kicked out the rear window. The subject then attempted to
crawl out of the moving patrol car, but captured again.

escape. He was transported by ambulance and hospitalized.

with a seatbelt applied. Officers from another department arrived and were watching

prisoner was about to steal his patrol car. The officer got to the subject before

got the car started, and took off. The prisoner made it to a remote lake area where

neighbor confronted the suspect, and the prisoner shot at the man wounding him, but not
seriously. The suspect kept running, but was caught a short time later.

A man was arrested for outstanding
warrants. The man was handcuffed behind his back and placed in the back seat of a
police car which had a locked prisoner partition in it. The prisoners worked his
handcuffs from behind his back, climbed through a partition in the cruiser and sped away,
hitting things and damaging the police car. The man lost control of the police car
and slid into a parking lot slamming into a 1986 Ford F-150, sending the truck onto its
side. A lady and her great-granddaughter were in the parking lot approximately
10 feet away from the crash. The truck that was damaged was uninsured and had about
117,000 miles on it. The owner of the truck doesn't think he'll ever find another
truck like it and plans on filing a lawsuit against the city for allowing the prisoner to
steal the patrol car and hit his truck. The prisoner suffered minor injuries while
the police car sustained extensive front-end damage, and the pickup truck was a total
loss.

were handcuffed and placed in a police car for transport. While transporting the
subjects to jail, the officer drove up on a motor vehicle crash with an injured person
partly ejected and yelling for help. The officer called for assistance and went to
help the injured person. While the officer was helping with the crash, one of the
arrested subjects started kicking the window of the police car. The officer tried to
radio for help again, but one of the subjects jumped out of the police car and ran away

conduct and harassment violations. When a deputy arrived, he observed broken glass
and evidence of a physical altercation between the intoxicated man and a woman in the
living room. The man was uncooperative and, while in the patrol vehicle, kicked and
damaged a rear door. While being transported to the jail, the man banged his head against
the plexiglass screen, cutting his forehead.

and a struggle ensued. A loaded semiautomatic pistol dropped from the subject's
pants during the fight. The subject punched, kicked, and clawed the officers in an

the patrol car and bent the doorframe of a police car. Police recovered the gun with

not located by the officer.

As an officer was taking him to the jail to be held, the subject jumped from the car as it

was started, which included a police dog and helicopter. The subject was caught
about an hour later.

Montreal police are looking for a man who led them on a chase early Wednesday
morning after he drove off in a stolen police car. Police arrived at a residence on
Gordon St. in Verdun after receiving complaints of a man yelling threats outside the
premises. They tried to arrest the man, but he resisted and fled in a patrol car. In
the ensuing chase, the man stole a Verdun public works vehicle which he ultimately crashed

An Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and learned through a license
plate computer check that the car was stolen. The subject jumped out of the car and
fled into a wooded area leaving his wallet and driver's license in the stolen car.
Officers learned the subject was wanted in Kentucky on weapons and drug charges and was
considered armed and dangerous. The subject then stolen a pickup truck with a
handgun inside it. Police later found the truck abandoned but the handgun was
gone. Detectives found and arrested the subject who was in a taxi cab. The
subject was handcuffed with his hands behind his back and he was placed into the rear seat
of the detectives' vehicle, which did not have a screen between the front and rear seats.
The detectives then called for a patrol car to take him to jail, and went to search for
the gun. The subject somehow got his hands in front of him, climbed over the
front seat, and shifted the car into gear. The detectives yelled for the subject to
stop and pulled out their guns, but the subject sped faster towards the detectives when
they opened fire. The shots punctured two tires and pierced the windshield and the
passenger side of the car. One bullet hit the subject in the back of the head, below
his right ear, while a second hit him in the right thigh. The subject continued to
flee in the detectives unit and crossed the county line where the subject stopped and
surrendered.

Two bondsmen handcuffed a subject behind his back that
had come to their bonding company. They told the subject the bond was going to be
rescinded and they were going to take the subject to jail. The subject was placed in
the back of a van with the engine running while they locked the door of the bonding
company. The subject was able to get his handcuffs to the front of his body, get
into the driver's seat, and drove off. The subject reportedly swerved towards one of
the bondsmen and shots were fired at the van, hitting the passenger side of the front
windshield. The two bondsmen followed in another car and called 911.
Authorities found the van abandoned and Deputies used a helicopter to find the subject on
a rooftop where he was arrested again without incident.

smoking. The boys resisted and assaulted officers, so police arrested them. While
police were trying to leave with the boys in a police cruiser, a group formed. The group
included the father of one of the boys, who managed to reach inside the cruiser and open
the back door so the boys could get out. One 14-year-old ran away in handcuffs, but police
prevented the other 16-year-old boy from escaping. Officers then arrested the father
of the 16-year-old initially arrested. Twice more before police could get to the
police station, crowds of at least 30 people blocked the street and tried to free the
people in the police cars. Another teen was arrested for trying to interfere. The 14
year old turned himself in later that evening.

searched, one of the two alleged assailants slipped out of his handcuffs, jumped into the

stolen. The subject stopped and after the deputy noticed the smell of
marihuana. The subject jumped back into his vehicle and sped away. After a
pursuit the driver exited the car and ran into nearby woods, but was captured after a
struggle which involved pepper spray and taken into custody. The subject was placed
handcuffed in the back seat of a caged police unit. The subject complained of
discomfort from the pepper spray and a deputy lowered a shield separating the front and
back seats to provide him more air, as well as providing water. The deputy returned
to the woods to search for a missing item and upon returning to the patrol unit,
discovered that the subject had climbed over the seat and escaped by stealing the patrol
unit. The subject was later captured again and the patrol unit recovered with slight
damage.

An police officer pulled a woman over, suspecting her car was
stolen. The suspect gave the officer false information and was arrested. The
woman slipped out of the handcuffs, jumped in the car and took off, dragging the officer
several feet. Police chased the woman for a few blocks until she ran a red light and
crashed into a white SUV.

Narcotic Officers arrested a suspect on drug charges and was transporting him to jail,
when the suspect attempted to stab the deputy who was driving the transport vehicle.
The deputy lost control of the vehicle for a short time to defend himself and suffered a

Officers arrested a subject for a domestic disturbance at his home after he threatened
authorities with a pack of dogs. Police were met in the yard by the subject who was
holding nine dogs on leashes. The subject threatened to let the dogs go and asked police
to shoot him. The subject was restrained, handcuffed, and placed in the back of a patrol
car. While in the back seat of the police unit, the subject shattered a rear
passenger window with his feet.

Police pulled over a car with three suspects and found several suspicious items in the
vehicle. During this time, one of the suspects managed to free himself from his
handcuffs and get behind the wheel of a Mustang police car. The cruiser, with lights
flashing, headed south for about 50 miles at speeds exceeding 100 mph until it ran out of
gas. All three suspects face a variety of charges.

Officers were called on three drunken teenage boys disturbing the neighborhood about 2:30
a.m. When police arrived, the teenagers took off on foot and police gave chase and
located them. One of the three was taken into custody without incident, but the
other two subjects yelled and fought with police during the entire ordeal. The
officers were finally able to get the other two subjects in the back seat of two different
patrol units. The 16-year-old kicked out the back window of one of the police
cruisers as he continued to swear at the police. Meanwhile, the 15-year-old kicked
the window in a second cruiser so hard, he bent its frame. One officer was injured.

An officer stopped an adult subject riding a mini-motorcycle on the road about 1
a.m. The subject gave a false name, birth date, and attempting to flee on foot
during the contact. Officers fought with the subject and used pepper spray to gain
control. The subject had one hand in a cast and was unable to be handcuffed.
Police found crack cocaine in the subject's pocket and when placed in the back seat, used
his cast to bang on the plastic window of the metal cage inside the patrol car. The
subject also had outstanding warrants.

Officers arrested a man who was intoxicated and had driven his car into a ditch.
When officers attempted to arrest him, he tried to run away but stumbled and fell.
As police handcuffed him, he grabbed an officer's gun and tried to remove it from the

his head against the rear seat barrier. Then the man tried to kick out the window and
officers used pepper spray.

assaulted a child and ripped clothes off a woman. Officers handcuffed the man and
placed him in a patrol car, but on the way to the jail, the man broke the window with his

to escape and slowed to stop the patrol car as the man jumped out and attempted to flee on

An inmate being transferred between detention centers overpowered two guards, apparently
took a fellow prisoner hostage and sped away in the van that had been carrying them.
The incident began when a prisoner produced a firearm that had been smuggled in and took
the transport van and guard's guns leaving the two guards and eight other inmates along
the road. The escape also included another stole vehicle, a robbery, kidnapping of 3
more people, assault, and attempted carjacking. The prisoners were captured three
hours and all the hostages were unharmed.

A suspect in an armed robbery was handcuffed behind his back and being transported to
headquarters when he was able to move his handcuffs from the back to the front of his body
twice. After arriving at headquarters, the suspect once again pulled his handcuffs
to the front and a scuffle ensued as the officers tried to cuff him again. During
the scuffle, the suspect was shot twice. The suspect broke free and tried to run,
but was chased down a short while later. He was taken to a hospital, where he was
treated.

A woman admitted to starting an apartment complex fire. When questioned further, the
woman became incoherent and was in the back seat of a police car. Moments later, an
officer noticed that the woman had a lighter and was attempting to set the patrol car's

Despite being handcuffed, she kicked the rear passenger window out of its track, causing
about $400 in damage.

able to slip out of the handcuffs, force down the bullet proof cage partition, climb into
the front seat of the patrol unit, and speed away. Officers pursued the suspect and
the suspect crashed the patrol unit into a deputy's unit, a fence, boulders, and curbs
before crashing into a field and being captured again.

A deputy arrested a male subject for an outstanding
warrant. The subject was handcuffed his back and placed in the back seat of the
patrol unit while the deputy attempted to find a second subject which fled on foot.
The arrested subject opened the rear window, got out of the patrol unit, into the front
seat, and sped away. The patrol unit was found abandoned and the arrested subject
was captured later.

An officer was flagged down by a woman who said someone or something was
trying to get her, but the officer did not see anybody around. When the officers
went to investigate, the woman attacked the officer and attempted to steal the patrol
unit. The woman was arrested after a long fight and chemical spray.

Detectives arrested a man who had
possession of cocaine, marijuana, and a pistol. The detectives handcuffed the man
and placed him in the back seat of their car. As the detectives were doing further
investigation, the man was able to slip out of the handcuffs, get into the front seat, and
drive off. The vehicle was recovered and the man was caught a short time later.

Officers arrested a man and handcuffed him behind his back and placed him in
a patrol unit fitted with a cage separating the front and rear seats. While officers
were interviewing people at the scene, the man was able to maneuver his cuffed hands in
front of his body, crawled through a small window in the patrol unit's cage, and escape on
foot. Officers caught the man later who was still wearing one handcuff.

Officers arrested a female subject after being involved in destruction of private
property. The female was handcuffed behind her back and placed in the back seat of a
patrol unit equipped with a prisoner transport partition. While the officers
were obtaining more information at the scene of the incident, the female subject kicked
out a back side window of the patrol unit, crawled out the window, and escaped on foot
only to be caught again a short time later. The female also had 11 outstanding
warrants.

Officers spotted a subject who had 10 outstanding
warrants. After a short foot pursuit, officers caught the subject who did not resist
arrest any further and was placed in a transport van. When officers opened the van
after the two-mile drive, the subject was found on the floor unresponsive and unable to be
revived. Police think the subject committed suicide.

Troopers caught a woman suspected of stealing a car, handcuffed
her, and seat belted her into the front passenger seat of the patrol unit. While the
Trooper was inventorying the vehicle, the woman was able to unbuckle the seatbelt, slip
the handcuffs under her feet and in front, get into the driver's seat and speed away only
to be found a few hours later.

Officers arrested a subject for possible car theft, handcuffed him, and placed him in the
back seat of the patrol unit. While officers talked to another subject, the arrested
subject somehow was able to escape the patrol unit and flee on foot.

when the subject somehow was able to get free of a handcuff, escape from the patrol car,
and flee on foot.

While parked at the deputy's residence, somebody broke in an unmarked patrol unit
and stole the unit plus a shotgun. The vehicle was recovered, but the gun is still
missing.

Officers arrested two suspects for breaking into a car. The suspects
were handcuffed and placed in the back of patrol units. While the officers were
getting more information, one of the suspects was able to crawl through the divider into
the front seat and speed away. The patrol unit was found and prisoner arrested a
short time later.

Officers arrested a man on drug and weapon charges. The man complained
about pain in his hands and knees and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Doctors
placed a soft cast on his leg and advised officers not to handcuff the man. When
officers pulled up to the station and opened the back of the van, the man fled on
foot. The man turned himself in later.

Two undercover officers arrested a female suspect for prostitution and placed
her in the backseat of an unmarked police van in handcuffs. As the two officers
walked to the front of the van, the suspect managed to get her handcuffed hands in front
of her and drive away with their vehicle. The van was recovered later.

Officers arrested a subject who was trespassing at a High School. The subject was
handcuffed and placed in a patrol unit. While the officers were obtaining more
information, the subject slipped from the handcuffs, kicked open the patrol unit door, and
fled on foot.

An officer arrested a subject for a traffic violation and no driver's license. The
subject was placed in the backseat of the patrol unit, but somehow escaped and pulled a
knife on the officer. The subject fled on foot but taken back into custody a short
time later.

3 prisoners escaped from a highway work crew when the prisoner guard and 2 other prisoners
stepped out of the van. The prison guard left the keys in the van to listen to the
prison radio, when one of the prisoners got into the driver seat and drove off. They
were caught a short distance away and taken back into custody.

After a male suspect was arrested on drug charges, he escaped by jumping from
a patrol car and feeing on foot. The suspect had to be rescued after he ended up in
a tree over a river and was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for hypothermia when
he escaped for a second time.

Officers were checking a suspect's drivers identification through the computer in the
patrol unit, when the suspect walked to the patrol unit and shot a female officer.
The other officer requested assistance, and chased the suspect on foot before exchanging
gun fire and being shot. Both officers died.

A female suspect was arrest on drug charges. The suspect was handcuffed
behind her back and placed in the back seat of the patrol unit. When the officer
began to inventory the suspect's vehicle; the suspect got her hands in front of her,
climbed through the patrol car screen into the driver seat, and sped away. The
suspect was re-captured after she crashed the patrol unit into another vehicle, but kept
driving until she pulled over a short time later.

A deputy was checking an unattended vehicle with drugs in the seat.
While the deputy was investigating the vehicle, the vehicle owner arrived and was
handcuffed and placed in the patrol unit. A family member of the arrested subject
distracted the deputy and the subject was able to escape on foot.

A jail inmate doing time for auto theft jumped from a truck carrying a prisoner work crew
through a neighborhood. The inmate threw open the door, did a barrel roll out, and
took off. The inmate was caught a short time later.

Officers placed a man in protective custody after the man complained he was a danger to
himself and others. The man was handcuffed behind his back, leg shackles in place,
and restrained in the back seat of the patrol unit. The man was able to roll the
window down and crawl out.

the patrol unit. While the officer was dealing with others in the vehicle, the
prisoner somehow opened back door and fled on foot.

Officers on an auto theft task force stopped a subject for a traffic violation.
The subject had bulky clothes on; was pat searched and placed in the back seat of a patrol
unit. While in the patrol unit, the subject produced a small handgun and shot one of
the officers. The other officer returned fire killing the subject. The wounded
officer is recovering.

Officers questioned a man after a burglary in the area. Officers pat
searched the suspect and placed him in the back seat of a patrol unit. Unknown to
the officers, the suspect had a small handgun hidden. When the officers went to get
the suspect, the suspect shot both officers and stole a patrol unit. Other officers
chased the stolen patrol unit until the suspect crashed. The suspect then pointed a
gun at an officer and that officer shot the suspect twice. The wounded officers are
recovering.

A Trooper arrested a lady for an outstanding warrant. The
lady was handcuffed behind her back and seatbelted in the front passenger seat of
the patrol car. The Trooper was dealing with another person in the vehicle, when the
prisoner managed to slip the handcuffs in front of her and jumped into the driver's seat
of the patrol car and speed away striking the Trooper. The patrol car was stopped
later with spike strips and prisoner arrested again. The Trooper was treated and
released.
